From 1990 to 1998 Roman Vasilenko headed the finance service of a unit of the Leningrad Naval Base. He was responsible for budget planning, pay and allowances, settlements with contractors and financial reporting.
After completing his military service he worked in the commercial sector — from financial adviser to company director. He dealt with investment, insurance, financial planning and asset management. He gained experience at a Swiss consulting company and in carrying out major financial deals in Russia and abroad.

He founded the «Best Way» housing cooperative, later reorganized into a consumer cooperative. He first headed the board of the «Best Way» consumer cooperative, then served as chairman of the cooperative's council.

Roman worked with a Swiss consulting company, studied international financial practices and took business training in various countries.
Gradually the idea of starting his own company took shape. For several years he kept returning to it but put the decision off: the job brought a good income, and starting out on his own meant risking what he had already achieved.
In 2013 he finally took the plunge. Together with a partner he founded a consulting company.
The start was rapid. As Roman recalls, in the first six months he achieved results that had previously taken years. Some of his former colleagues joined the new project.
But soon this story took an unexpected turn.

In 1986 Roman entered the Yaroslavl Higher Military Finance School. As he recalls, there were twenty applicants per place. Of the thousand who enrolled, only half made it to graduation.
In 1990 he received his officer's commission and began serving at the Leningrad Naval Base, in the 17th Naval Crew — a unit whose history dates back to the times of Peter the Great.
In the nineties, however, life began to change. While still in service, Roman became interested in entrepreneurship and started doing financial consulting on the side.
In 1998 he retired to the reserve. The formal reason was organizational restructuring, but, as Roman later admitted, the decision to move into business was also his own choice.

THE FIRST CHOICE
Roman Viktorovich Vasilenko was born on 5 April 1969 in Leningrad into a family of hereditary military officers. Both parents served in the naval aviation of the Soviet Navy.
Roman spent his childhood in the Russian Far East, at the Mongokhto military garrison. He moved often with his parents, living in garrisons of the Black Sea, Pacific, Northern and Baltic Fleets.
From an early age he was surrounded by people for whom military service was not just a profession but a way of life.
At seventeen, Roman left his parents' home to continue the family tradition and become an officer.

In 2026 the book «Pravda vsem» was released — about money, people, decisions and twenty-three strategies for building capital.

In January 2014 Roman lost control of his first company.
As he recalls, while he was growing the business and travelling across the regions, his partner re-registered the company's documents in his own name. The conflict ended with Roman being forced to leave the company he had built.
Several hard months followed. He had to sell his apartment. Later he even remembered the price of the bag of pearl barley the family lived on back then — fifteen roubles.
But it was during this period that Roman began looking for a new business idea. He became interested in the problem of housing affordability and the possibilities of housing cooperation.
That same year, 2014, he founded the «Best Way» housing cooperative.
And so, after losing his first business, the next stage of his entrepreneurial life began.
